“The Swan Dreams Project was inspired by my experience with doubt, insecurity, anger, inner resolve, determination and faith as I pursued a professional ballet career as an African-American woman from the inner city. Through the use of imagery and my career as a ballet dancer, I want to help change the demoralized, objectified and caricatured images of African-American women by exposing young ladies to the beauty of ballet and demonstrating that they too can command poise, grace, elegance and beauty – they too can be beautiful swans. I wish for this beauty to infuse the ballet world and project to the entire world. While exposing more African-American communities to the ballet. I also hope to promote greater involvement and increase patronage to this beautiful art form.

The Swan Dreams Project’s goal is to convey the message that beauty and talent are not constrained by race or socio-economic status. I want our youth to know that they are not limited by their environment, only by their dreams.

In many ways, this project is a continuation of the mantra I carried throughout my life and career, and sought to embody in every performance. Art inspires, edifies and unites.”
